On a once grand  country estate in Tsarist Russia, the arrival of Professor Serebriakov and  his beautiful young wife, Yelena, throws the residents’ lives into chaos. Serebriakov’s  brother-in-law, Uncle Vanya has toiled on the farm for him for many years, only  to discover that the professor now has intentions to sell the property, which  will leave him and his niece, Sonya, homeless and penniless. The arrival of the  dashing Doctor Astrov furthers the tension in the household as both he and  Vanya compete for Yelena’s affections.

Rich  in language and emotion, Uncle Vanya is a passionate character study that expertly weaves laughs and heartbreak as  it showcases one of the greatest roles in the theatrical canon. An enduring  classic from Anton Chekhov, one of the theatre’s most important dramatists and  master of the modern short story.
